Blog 4

I can not believe this semester is coming to an end. I have enjoyed science methods, I have learned so much this semester. My favorite part about this semester is getting to teach actual students about science. I enjoyed completing the science experiments with them. As I look back on this semester I feel that I have gained so much that I can take with me into my future classroom. This class has actually made me love science and maybe one day I will just be a science teacher. This week I have worked on finishing up my unit and making changes. I have been working on finishing up my clinical experiences. I can connect my learning experiences to NCTS is standard three. I will take the information I have learned and apply it when I teach. This has been a great semester, I am going to miss all of you when I move. I hope you all have a great summer!

My first tweet is about a scientist who goes around different schools teaching students about science. In this one, he is teaching about tornadoes and the pressure difference.

My second tweet is about students use pictionary to engage the students in a warm-up for the lesson.

Blog three

Blog 3 Science methods 

First I would like to say I cannot believe we are in week 11. This week I was able to teach my three lessons. I never knew how much I would love teaching science. I really enjoyed teaching the students about the matter. On day one I showed them the reaction between orange juice and baking soda. Day two each student got a ziplock bag with baking soda in it and added vinegar. Several students bags popped and they loved seeing it explode. On day three the student mixed Kho- laid with water to see a physical change in matter and made slime to see a chemical change in matter. This month we wrapped up the ecosystem project. I learned that I do not have a green thumb. This project was surprisingly fun and I hope I can use this in my future classroom. I can relate my learning experience this month to NCTCS 3 teachers know the content they teach and 4 teachers facilitate learning for the students. I have learned a great amount this semester that I will be able to apply in my future classroom. I was able to take what I know and teach it to students. Being able to take the information I know and allow the students to learn through instruction and hands-on activities was an amazing experience. 

 My first tweet is where the students built a lego ramp. I think this is a great stem activity for students. My second tweet is about students learning about a natural disaster. The students worked in groups in a different with hands-on activity learning about the different natural disasters that can happen. My last tweet is the students learned about the different phases of the moon. They used Oreos to recreate the different moon phases. I love stem activities for the students. I feel that they get more out of the lesson when they are able to apply it to a real-life situation. 

 

Blog Two

This month I have dived head first in creating an ecosystem, working with my classmates on our projects. This is just the beginning of a great learning experience. I planted basil seed in the ecosystem on February 4^th. I am excited to say that even I don’t have a green thumb I have one seed sprout. As I go through this learning experience I am trying to figure out how much water I should use and how often I should water my plant. As I work on this ecosystem I wonder if it makes a difference using distilled water vs tap water. Does it make a difference in what soil I use. The ecosystem is a great project to have students complete in a classroom setting. This project has helped me think of questions I could ask students. It is a great hands-on experience for the students and engages them to critically think of why and how questions. This has been a great experience and I hope I have the opportunity to include this in my future classroom. I can connect this to the NCTCS three teachers know the content they teach. After having this learning experience I can pass this information down to my students and help them learn just as I did. I am excited to get this semester clinical started. This past week I contacted my clinical educators and we are working on setting updates I can come in and observe. Getting out into a classroom is one of my favorite part of this experience. I want to continue to stay on top of my course work and not fall behind. This week I want to start on my unit plan and stay on track and not fall behind on it. This past month we have worked together as a class on our science project and starting our water cycle project. The tweets I found this week are I think are really neat. The first tweet is about toads riding on the back of a python. It’s amazing that the python didn’t eat the toads since the toads carry a deadly toxin. I learned from this tweet that pythons are not able to eat this type of toads. To me this is like a phenomenon, it’s something you don’t see every day.  The second tweet the students are working hands-on trying to find out what caused the ancient channels on Mars. The students then had to explain their ideas and arguments based on science. The last tweet the students used skittles to model erosion, weather, and deposition. 

Blog 1

Hey everyone, I am glad to be starting a new semester at GWU. I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. This semester my goal is to not wait to the last minute for my work. I want to have more time with my family on the weekends. I want to stay on top of my work and work smarter not harder. What I have learned so far in week one is how much science has changed in the teaching aspect. We discussed as future teachers are we preparing our students for jobs that may not be around when they graduate. This to me was an eye opener, I never thought in depth about the teaching career and how jobs may not need to be there. As a future teacher, I need to make sure my students learn what they need to know in order to be successful for any career. In today's society technology is taking over many jobs and it is teachers jobs to teach students with the knowledge of technology. We can do this by incorporating technology into our classrooms. Below are my three tweets I found this week.

My first tweet is a great resource on tools you can use in the classroom. these tools are for teaching science. It also is a great way to incorporate technology.

 This tweet is a stem experiment. This experiment taught the students how to separate materials. The students learned how to do this in many different ways. 

 My last tweet is a great read from Edutopia. it is different videos you can watch on how educators can guide their students while teaching science. It is based on how students learn.
